Vicky Devine

From Medical Technicien to one of the most popular female Disc Jockeys (DJs) in clubs around the world, Vicky Devine has come a long way. In Goa to perform at The Smirnoff Experience, this vivacious blonde with a great sense of humour is one of just a handful of DJs who have made it big in a male dominated world.

Speaking about her decision to become a DJ she told GT: "I've been into clubbing since I was old enough to club. I used to write for magazines in the UK and from there I went onto dancing. I came to know there was a real shortage of female DJs on the circuit and somebody said to me "Why don't you start DJ'ing?". Since I was already into the music I thought "Yeah - why not?"

But she admits "Its still a male dominated scene"

And it isn't easy "At the beginning it was a lot easier but there comes a time when people start to doubt and think like "what can SHE do?" and then you've really got to start proving yourself. I think its alot harder for women especially when blokes are trying to knock you down a little bit to show off their prowess" she says with a put on expression of awe.

Goa's been a long cherished dream destination for this 20some girl from Manchster.

She says "I'm really excited to be here. Obviously being into trance music I've heard a lot about Goa over the years. Psy-trance is something I've always wanted to play. This is completly different from all the places I've played in before. I played in clubs in Asia and Europe but this is different.

"I'm only performing in Goa this time but I'd love to come back. There's another female DJ whos coming in December to play so I am trying to get back with her" she whispers while revealing her grand conspiracy.

She goes on to describe herself saying "I think I'm just a real lover of life. I really love the world, I like nature and I'm into people". Before I got into my performing career I was a medical technicien. I worked in a hospital with children for about three years. I'm quite a people person. I love travelling and I love seeing different cultures. I think I'm quite outgoing , a glass-is-half-full person".

What does she want to be rememered as? "I'd love to be remembered as somebody who loved life. I had a friend who died recently and if I could be rememered like anything she is like a real lover of people and life I think thats important"

As thick grey clouds gathered over Baga she says that this is the third show that the rain god had gate crashed at in recent times. She jokes " I'm finding it hard to keep believing in that half full glass"!
